Coming soon: Spelling Tests!

Tonight we will be doing an in-class writing assignment.
TOMORROW we will review last night's reading and have a short spelling test on the fill-in words. You can cut and paste the whole document into the spelling site and practice the words:http://www.esldesk.com/spelling/word

I was eating dinner when I remembered that I needed milk. I was putting on my shoes to go to the store, but then my shoelace broke. I was hopping to the bedroom to find another one when the phone rang. I answered the phone; it was my best friend. As I was talking to my friend, the doorbell rang. I was hopping to the door to answer it, and I tripped and fell. The phone flew out of my hand and crashed into a vase and knocked some flowers over. A big pool of water formed on the floor, with my phone in the middle of it.
“Please call an ambulance,” I said to the door. “I think I broke my leg.”
“OK,” a voice yelled back. “But the door is locked. Can you unlock it?”
That was when I started crying.

NEXT WEEK: Spelling Test "Grand Finale!"
Next Thursday (the 24th) you will be writing verbs from our "60 Useful Irregular Verbs" list. Cut and paste the words into the spelling site to practice them:

Tonight: Reading Assessment!

We will be doing our end-of-quarter reading assessments the second half of class tonight.
What can you do during computer time to prepare for this? Some suggestions:

Read a few stories and answer the questions:
http://fog.ccsf.edu/~lfried/stories/stories.html

or choose a topic to listen to and read along with:
http://www.manythings.org/listen/

You can also listen to and read a "This I Believe" essay, such as this one by Bill Gates:
http://thisibelieve.org/essay/5/

Remember, reading is a great way to build your VOCABULARY, and it also helps your grammar and writing skills a lot. Tonight, read, read, and read!

How was your weekend?

Mine was cold, rainy, and windy. I spent each morning weeding the yard, and got very muddy and wet. They were easy to pull up, though, which is one advantage to doing yard work in the rain.
I also went shopping with my husband; the mall was packed with people! I guess everyone had the same idea that we had. I worked on our class recording a lot too - like most computer work, it took a long time, but it was interesting to do. Once I start something, I always want to finish it. My husband John and I went out for Indian food in Renton on Sunday....it was delicious! It warmed us up in the freezing cold weather!
